I must say that I have enjoyed the radio dramas of these stories better than I did the movies or books. Like “A New Hope” the radio drama of “Empire Strikes Back” gives a bit more detail into the stories and with different actors portraying Vader, Leah and Solo you do get a different perspective of the story – which if you are willing to be open minded about it – you should really enjoy. Just for the record the same actors that appeared in A New Hope appear in this and having Mark Hamil, Antony Daniels, along with Billy Dee Williams in the radio drama allows for the stories to still have that genuine Star Wars feel to them. Also – all of the origonal sound effects from the movies appear in the radio dramas. One big plus about this audio version is that Vader is portrayed as being way more dark and sinister than he is in any of the books or the origonal films. One reason for this because since it is a radio drama the character has to describe in a bit of detail what he is doing at
Black spots on limited edition 2006 Empire Strikes Back DVD?
I purchased the limited edition 2006 Empire Strikes Back DVD and empire Strikes I noticed immediately after opening it that on the label side the band of foil going around the disc on the edge of the disc had black spots with foil missing. Is this disc rot or does this occasionally occur in the manufacturing process with DVDS?

One of the greatest Sci-fi films ever! No one will ever forget the moment Vader said he was Luke’s father and the shock it sent to audiences! I love the old Star Wars trilogy. I don’t understand why so many people who say they love these films hate the restored versions. Sure, Han shot Greedo first but c’mon people the restoration is beautiful!! “A New Hope” looks like it came out yesterday and “The Empire Strikes Back” looks gorgeous! Thank God they took out all the matte lines and cleaned the original celluloid copy up immensely!! You guys rather have a crappy VHS version just because Han shot Greedo first?! Gimme a break. It’s not that important! What’s important is that these films have been restored and are being preserved for future generations to cherish!! Thank you George Lucas for keeping it up to date!! I wish more movies would to this, just like “Blade Runner: The Final Cut” did. You’re the man Lucas!!!
This has the best sword fight and Story line. The sword fight is so good because it has father and son battling eachother.
I really feel for George Lucas. He creates the greatest space-fantasy of all time and then, over a decade later, embarks on a prequel trilogy which cleverly expands upon his original tale and adds layers of depth to the existing canon. Meanwhile he takes the original trilogy and gives it a revamp – adding scenes and effects that were unachievable in the 70s/80s and bringing the saga into visual alignment. And the fans, all grown up (relatively speaking!), come down on the guy like an angry mob!
You won’t get any mileage out of me re: prequel hating. I thought they were great movies and even surpassed the originals in many ways. So sue me!
Originals vs Special Ed. is another matter. Theoretically I get it. The saga has to flow as a coherent whole and of course the artist (that being George) has to be satisfied with his work. It makes perfect sense that the mid-90s was the time to update the trilogy in time for the prequels.
The problems are two – firstly fans like myself have been watching these things over and over on VHS since we were kids. We don’t play them like movies, we play them like records. It’s like listening to your favorite Beatles or Zeppelin album and, as a result, a certain conservatism sets in. You don’t want to hear a horn section added to your favorite album when it’s remastered. Likewise you don’t want the dialogue to change in your old Star Wars movies. You don’t want Boba Fett to suddenly have a Kiwi accent or the unmasked Vader to suddenly be a different bloke. It sounds trivial but these things jolt you out of the ‘reality’ of the picture, just as a horn section would on your favorite Zeppelin album.
Secondly ‘fixing’ these movies opens the door to a “well he fixed this, why didn’t he fix that?” mentality. Suddenly ‘problems’ that one never even noticed in the first place become obvious and the ‘fixed’ films become flawed in the process. I think Star Wars is to be purely enjoyed, not looked over with a critical eye.
For that reason I prefer the original cuts. I realize this is an entirely subjective viewpoint based on my personal history with these films. I understand that a younger kid may well find the originals archaic and prefer the Special Editions – and that’s fine too! But I’m so glad Lucasfilm relented and presented these cinematic versions. They just have a certain feel and charm, a certain grit, that takes me right back to that special place.
Oh, and ‘Empire’ was my favorite!
Great service. Product was just as promised. Fast shipping. Arrived before date promised.
This is not the release you are looking for move along! Move Along!
Sound channels are reversed on some songs and on others the stereoization is almost completely gone. They also messed up the arista release as well with flipped sound channels. So unless Lucas ever caves to a re-release hold onto that double LP.
