Worst star wars game ever. I have played enough games to know the difference between controlling your ship versus rocking like a yo-yo. Nasty 2-D look and feel.

here is a game that had potential , but dont waste your money. The controls are horrible and unresponsive and the training levels seem to last forever. Not much pay-off in thisgame for all the patience it requires. Do yourself a favor and get jedi knight 2 jedi outcast.

it is an alright but incredibly short game of about 10-15 levels. there however is flawless graphics and gameplay. the storyline is ok but could be better, only reccommended for diehard Star Wars fans like me

Please disregard dszeibert and stomper1’s reviews. You can configure the controls. The controls do make sense for anyone who’s flown a flight sim before and the menus make perfect sense to those above the 80 IQ line.

I found this game to be a lot of fun. The missions were challenging and visually impressive. It’s very Star Wars in its space combat style, with a lot of laser sounds and a John Williams soundtrack playing in the background. The really great thing is that after you finish, there are bonus levels and ships, so it has high replayability.

It’s true that the flight control is simplified. There are only three speeds; normal, boost and brake. But hey, you’re flying a Naboo fighter. If I wanted realism, I would buy an F14 sim.

The only thing I was disappointed in was the lack of a Multiplayer option. That would have made this game five stars.

In the end, the true quality of this game is the enjoyment you get by blowing up tanks, fighters and frigates, so I definitely recommend it.

I had already mastered Star Wars Rogue Squadron when I got this game. Starfighter is much better. It is very realistic. You get recharging shields, and only one life! That is a real pro for me. You don’t get the unrealistic business of your x-wing crashing and resurrecting. However, the recharging shield I mentioned earlier makes you as hard to beat as in games where you have 3 lives.
P.S. I actually got the PC version, but it’s basically the same.

This is a rare example of a great star wars videogame. The story is rich in deatil and the worlds are great. The levels are developed and in great length. There is so many ways to play this game, it is a true gem for the playstation 2. The characters are believable especially for a star wars game. I was lucky to get this game when it was available and it is also the main reason why I got the PS2.

To tell you the truth, I disapprove of this game. I like the graphics, yes, but I strongly sugggest one of the other Star Wars games. It isn’t very fun because of the difficulty of dodging enemy fire. The level in the desert is my favorite. Other things that I like are how it is:
    (1) in third person
    (2) starship weapons
    (3) nice graphics

I suggest that Lucas Arts puts in squad-based air fighting or make the game a litle easier and longer. Still, I am a big fan of Star Wars. Good luck on the next game Lucas Arts!

Overall, the graphics are great, the story seems original and the characters are fun. The wingmen commands are great, being able to fight alongside other pilots. Its levels are very well-designed and quite extensive. It expands on the Star Wars universe very well. Its shortcomings are the dogfighting action. Its flight modle is not great. You don’t feel like you are really flying. It seems you are floating with speed. It could have used the flight model as Rogue Leader (one of the greatest space combat games ever!). The last level is very disappointing to me. I was expecting something like a military like attackprocedure kind of thing. Not a flimsy attack with a few Bravo squadron pilots and just about forty droid fighters. I was expecting like 20 naboo pilots and hundreds or at least some high number of droids. Lucasarts could have made getting revenge on a pirate scum a mission just before the last level on some other mission. All in all pretty nice game but because of the flight modle, the fun wont last. When you turn it doesn’t even ban, just turns like its on ice or something. Really disgusting flight model. I got this game years ago (2001?) and is reviewing now becuase of bordeom, I have no life.

The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter remains a controversial fighter. Designed by Kelly Johnson, of Lockheed’s Skunk Works, it was a “missile with a man in it”. It was certainly a fast plane, with great acceleration. But not a dog fighter, nor could it carry a large load (4,000 lbs tops). The U.S. Air Force only had 296 built and phased them out quickly.

It was a “hot” fighter, demanding of its pilots. Lockheed would have gone bankrupt had not the Germans, then the rest of Europe’s NATO members purchased this plane. So why did they? Politics? Great Salesmen at Lockheed?

This is a very detailed book about Lockheed, the history of the F-104 and tackles the issue of whether or not this plane should be called a “widow maker”. Several sections are given to pilots who praised the fighter plane, and attribute the high accident rates to early maintenence problems, lack of pilot skill and poor weather in Europe. Once the bugs were worked out, they argue, the plane was as safe as any.

Martin Bowman writes a balanced account of this fighter, packed with clear B&W photos, 8 pages of color photos and some line drawings. I would like to have seen more of those to give it a full five starts.

So, was this a great jet? You be the judge. Just because a lot of nations used it, doesn’t make it great – just available. The author gives his opinion, which I like and agree with. A very good book of a very misunderstood jet. Recommended.

For all my reviews visit my website

I am NOT reviewing the DVD. Just the movies unless otherwise stated.

Please note that the rating above might not accurately reflect my thoughts, you will see a rating sentence at the end of the review.

The plot extremely reminds me of Tron. The special effects and costumes remind me of Star Wars. The characters remind me of Star Trek. That should just cover it right their, but I’m gonna talk about some stuff. Nowadays, people are always taking movies like this, Tron, Krull, Transformers. Spaceballs, etc., and just passing them off because their too much of a geek too let in a capitlizer of Star Wars. They call them “rip-offs.” When infact…well, look at it this way. Every decade had their rip-off artists, last decade shows a lot of dramas trying to cash in on Titanic. Now, people are jumping on the special effects band wagon because of Avatar. There’s also been a side trend, tons of Comic Book movies ever sine the success of Hulk and Batman Begins. So, the 80’s is just a Star Wars decade, will people just shut up and watch these movies?

This is another classic to the list. They weren’t making a Masterpiece such as Star Wars, but they weren’t exactly going the Santa Claus Conquers the Martians route either. They were going somewhere in between. A perfect balance of a script based off but not rip-off of Tron, great special effects (those are a rip-off of Star Wars. The explosions look just like Death Star explosions,) and a character development pulled from the great mysteries and Star Trek episodes of the times. All pulled together by a legendary title, plot twist, and cheese, make a good popcorn flick, and that’s all this is, just a popcorn flick. But a very good one. Usually, the only thing going for a popcorn flick is the popcorn. Here, you actually bond with the characters and observe great details in the things I have mentioned before.

I do have a few problems that I haven’t mentioned. First off, every character is your usual neighborhood suburbs kind of good ol’ folk. Except the 7 year old who swears a ton and reads playboy. YOU HAD 10 TEENAGERS IN THEIR, AND YOU CHOSE A 7 YEAR OLD TO READ PLAYBOY AND SWEAR LIKE CRAP! Jesus. That just isn’t right. The script was not executed as well as it could have been. Things didn’t happen in order. Twist should have come the second after we fall in love with the main character, after having a grudge against this brat. NOT BEFORE! But other than that, I really like everything. The idea of having them search for a recruit through a video game is an innovative spin on two very overused plots. I really like the movie, watch this when you’re ready to come loose from a hard days night-I MEAN work.

All in all, fun, fun, fun. But it’s more than fun, it has a lot of hard work poured into it, it was just squashed from the point they started making it. You can’t do a Star Wars 80’s type of movie without getting cheesy, but they really put some sweat and tears into this film. The Rating? 3.8/5.

Your company sent me an American DVD region of this DVD when I clearly live in Australia. I had to recode the DVD to watch it on my Australian DVD players.

Please make sure your company checks the DVD region before sending it to Australia.

    Thanks

    Steve

I haven’t seen this movie since the 80’s and was wondering how well it would not only turn out in HiDef, but if like many movies from my childhood, would feel lacking as an adult re-watching it. The video and audio quality was better than I expected after reading other reviews and was satisfied with the quality for what I paid. Obviously the special effects and story are straight from the 80s, but it was a fun movie to see again as an adult and would recommend it if you are looking for something like this to add to your collection…just don’t expect your kids with the newer movies to see to appreciate it as much as we did originally at that age!

Whereas some are simply content to save the world, “The Last Starfighter” aspires to saving the universe; the way this comes about is the theme of this movie.

The future hero is presented as a young man on the road to nowhere; frustrated by his circumstances he has developed phenomenal skills with a particular video game. Unknown to him, the video game he has excelled in is connected to a universal search for those few with the natural skills to pilot a starfighter.

His amazing ability results in a visit from an alien, ably played by Robert Preston, who invites him to join the forces of good to help in defeating the forces of evil. He has a beautiful girlfriend, played by Catherine Mary Stewart, whose presence complicates his decision as to what he should do.

The adventures which follow include light-speed trips to space stations, meetings with many alien races and the challenge they all face in confronting a determined enemy.

The movie is fun to watch and has a very satisfying ending; I don’t think I’ll spoil the ending by saying the forces of good triumph over the forces of evil, thanks in no small part to our young hero.

Regardless of which version you buy, this one is a worthy addition to the library of any sci-fi enthusiast.
