Star Wars Ep IV plothole?
I have been watching all the 6 movies in order the past few days (no particular reason, apart from that they're absolutely awesome) and i was up to a new hope before, when i noticed some contradictory stuff being said. Never listened to those people who complained about plot holes with the prequels, since I hadn't noticed any important ones before, but these stand out pretty badly:1) Obi wan tells Luke that his "uncle" didn't want him to have Anakin's light-saber because he feared he, as Obi said: "might follow old Obi Wan on some damn fool, idealistic crusade, like your father did."Now, clearly, Obi Wan would be making some of this up because he didn't really want to say: "well, to tell you the truth, I actually cut your father up and left him for dead, then I took his lightsaber. After that I waited until the time was right, in order to train you to kill Vader and the Emperor instead, since me and Yoda f****d up."but, we can also see (from the way Alec Guinness is acting in the scene) that he actually does mean the part about his uncle not agreeing with Obi-wan and Anakin, blah, blah. And he also seems to be saying that Luke's father (whoever he is, at this stage, since it is pre-TESB) followed Obi wan on an adventure, much in the same way that Luke follows him here. What is def clear from all this is, it seems back then, Lucas was imagining that uncle Owen was Anakin's real brother. Seems the idea of a "virgin birth" came to him later, when he did TPM, and this ruined any chance of Owen actually being Anakin's real brother. And he possibly had a totally different idea of what the Clone Wars were too. tatooine Lars Homestead I believe he's even admitted this. Though it does seem that he always had the idea that the Jedi were a very big part of the Clone Wars:Luke: "You fought in the Clone Wars?"Ben: "Yes, I was once a Jedi knight, the same as your father."Wait a minute, Luke didn't ask if he was a Jedi. But from Obi's answer it seems that the Jedi were the main protagonists of the Clone Wars. The dialogue, a bit later on, strongly implies that Obi-Wan met/found Luke's father (whether this is Vader or another person, at this point in George's mind, is also unclear) as an adult and convinced him to fight with him in the Clone Wars. This would be the "idealistic crusade" that he said Owen was against. Owen thought Anakin(or whoever) should've stayed on tatooine and never gotten involved, which would mean Lucas initially imagined Luke's dad growing up on Tatooine, and prob leaving as a young man, to go off on the "idealistic crusade". If you ask me, this is how the prequels should have been! He should've based Anakin's story on that conversation between Ben and Luke in Ep IV. But I still like the prequels how they are. Anyway, according to Attack of thy Clones, Owen Lars only met Anakin for 5 minutes and never saw him again. I doubt he would have a clue about what the Force really is and what really happened with Sidious, Anakin, Obi-wan, etc, so why, In Ep IV, would he be behaving as if he knew exactly what happened to Anakin?? To me that is a big discrepancy. But I have a feeling they will try to patch this up in the upcoming TV series. I bet they will show Obi-Wan meeting with Owen and telling him all the secret goings on behind the scenes regarding the Sith, etc. But, it truly is a problem because you'd swear by the way Owen said: "that's what i'm afraid of" that he had seen Anakin's fall first hand. 2) When they look at the full recording that R2 is carrying, Leia mentions how Ben served her "father" in the Clone Wars. So, can anyone please tell me where in the prequels it shows that Kenobi "served" Bail Organa in the Clone Wars?? Of course, having complained about all this, I would also like to make it VERY CLEAR that the Prequels are awesome, except for Jar-Jar. And we know that Jar Jar was just a marketing ploy, anyway, so we can forgive the man. The stories were multi-layered (the OT was simplistic, its true) and Sidious' machinations were the best thing a SW fan could ever dream of. Thus, I ignore the prequel haters, who are STILL living in a world that is devoid of the majesty of Coruscant, is left without Mace "bad-ass" Windu and is dominated by muppets (of which a certain clever one from Dagobah, is without a light-saber I might ad!). These movies were 100% Star Wars and I hope he makes a hundred more. The way it went from simple disputes about taxation of outlying systems (or something boring like that...) and idiotic looking droids...to the Emperor breaking it to Anakin about how Plagueis created him (while conveniently watching a spaced-out play that resembled sperm impregnating a giant egg) and everything else that ensued, was just masterful. I can't see how people claim they liked Sith and yet hated Clones. But this is a question for another topic. All I wanted to see, now, is if anyone has any explanations regarding the plot-holes I picked out.
