I Made A Review On Lukens Daguerreotype To Help You In Your Decision

This may be my favorite part of the Through the Bible in Felt set (and you can buy is individually). The book contains 182 Bible stories from Creation to the 2nd Coming and Heaven. The stories are very well written. With each story is a Memory Verse, the Bible Scripture for the story, and an Aim (goal for the story). There are also example pictures of the flannelgraph layout along with a list of every flannelgraph piece needed. The stories are written for children of all ages to understand. My favorite part is how the authors tie the story together with a personal application for the children. If you are unsure of how to tell Bible stories, this would be an excellent resource. This book is referenced on every lesson plan for the ABC Jesus Loves Me preschool curriculum.
This book was provided for review by the Betty Lukens Company.

I have the uneasy impression Betty Lukens is taking a stand somehow instead of opening the creation story to the imaginations of children. She picks a certain part of the Genesis story, and adds her own details. She capitalizes pronouns for God, which most reputable scripture translations do not. And she ends “creation week” without a single mention of the seventh day. She says, we don’t know how God did it …” but we do. He spoke it. That’s an important part of the story.

I have only read this exerpt, but I have seen the huge amount of felt picture stuff that comes with it. I wonder why she chose that material-intensive method of telling the old, old story?

This is an awesome organizational book for the beautiful Betty Luken felt sets. The felt pieces are numbered and this book has a list of the pieces so you can easily find the pieces you need. The stories are–well–not Scripture but are about as good as a rewrite is–not as accurate as a learned person would like but a good start for someone who is not well versed and has Scripture references so you can read up on the actual Biblical account. And yes, pronouns that indicate God are capital and I like that–any reference to God should be capitalized–in my opinion Bibles that do not capitalize the pronouns are missng the boat. Each story has a list by number of the pieces needed as well as a layout so you know what your story board will look like. Having used this book with my felts I know the value of having the listing as well as the demo pictures. I do tend to use the Scriptures and not the story as written to be more accurate. If you have the Betty Luken felt set then you really need this book!

A Critical Handbook of Children’s Literature is a fantastic resource book for teachers. It really explains all the parts of literature- plot, theme, character analysis, etc to help teach literature to students. It is also a great book for anyone studying children’s literature. I highly recommend this resource book!

EXCELLENT. PROVIDES A SYNOPSIS OF THE ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF LITERATURE FOR CHILDREN. EXAMPLES FROM E.B. WHITE’S CHARLOTTE’S WEB HELPS MAKE CONNECTIONS FOR THE READER/STUDENT/LEARNER. SUCCINCT. SUGGESTION FOR UPDATE: INCLUDE CURRENT SOCIAL ISSUES AND DIVERSITY, WITH APPLICATIONS/EXTENDING ACTIVITIES.
